Incandescent Bulbs
Incandescent bulbs were the only type of lightbulb you could buy for many years and have remained the same since their invention in 1879. This traditional bulb can offer powerful lighting, but it is not energy efficient and won’t last for a very long time. The light comes from the wire filament inside being heated, which is not a very efficient way of producing light. Over time, we expect incandescent bulbs to continue to be phased out in favour of LEDs, which offer home and business owners a more cost-effective and long-lasting lighting solution without any loss of light quality.
CFL (Compact Fluorescent Bulb)
A CFL bulb is often associated with energy efficiency and was designed to replace the incandescent bulb as it is compatible with the same types of fitting. Because it uses less electrical power for the same amount of visible light, the CFL bulb is considered energy-saving.
However, CFL bulbs are not as energy efficient as LEDs, and they are also difficult and dangerous to dispose of due to the mercury contained inside them. They also take a little while to reach full brightness, in contrast to the instant light of LEDs or incandescent bulbs.
LEDs
LEDs are the most energy-efficient and long-lasting type of lighting. They are considered the future of lighting and are expected to gradually replace other lighting types in the coming years. They cost more up-front than other bulbs but will offer savings on energy costs in the long term and last for many years.
